Non-Hard Ulduar clear
Edit 10.5.: Video of our firstkill can be found on youtube or filefront, thanks to Arkangel, Holypaladin @ Unnamed.
Yesterday we finally finally killed Yogg-Saron. I think this is a pretty cool fight. Last raiding ID we lost a lot of time on Mimiron and killing optional bosses and the time left for working on Yogg-Saron wasn’t enough for success. I missed the two nights of wiping on Yogg-Saron on Monday/Tuesday, this fight just doesn’t benefit from a raid packed with healers (5 or so is ok) so I had to sit those out.
On Wednesday we burned through Ulduar as quickly as possible, so yesterday only the general, yogg and razorscale/ignis were left. And since the last time I’ve seen Yogg, my guild has really made a lot of progress.
Some tips:
Phase 1: This is really all about movement. The whole raid is positioned right at the entrance and tanks bring the Guardians of Yogg-Saron and kite them pack to Sara where they should be finished. This phase seems incredibly easy, but more often than not a triggered cloud or a Guardian that dies before in range of Sara can be the end of a try. The tanks, the tank healers and the ranged DPS who finish the Guardians should get a feeling on avoiding clouds as soon as possible, then this phase is really easy. Also triggering ONE cloud right at the beginning of the encounter is a good idea and can help end phase 1 before Guardians start to spawn at increased frequency.
Phase2: This phase is all about coordination, communication and dps. If you’re low on mana, pop mana tide early so it is available again in phase 3. Go all out healing at the beginning of Phase 2 when DPS finish the last guardians and a lot of people might take damage. As a resto shaman it is all about dropping cleansing totem, decursing and healing the raid. What I like about phase 2: Healers have really to see what’s going on and not just stare at the raid frames. If melees come out of the portals, check if one of them gets grabbed by a tentacle and heal him. Have an eye on your sanity debuff. Follow DPS if you’re brain linked so they can continue to do their job. Watch out for green beams. When tentacles are stunned, help out dps’ing Crusher tentacles.
As a dps, Phase 2 comes down to two things: Damage of the melee group inside the brain who should burn down the tentacles as quickly as possible to stun the tentacles outside of the brain and make yogg’s brain vulnerable for damage and secondly heavy focus damage on Crusher Tentacles. You should work on executing those two things as perfectly as possibly and have the raid outside of the brain stay as a group without people running all over the place.
Phase 3: Don’t face Yogg if he shoots purple beams at you! Finish all Crusher Tentacles as quickly as possible at the start of Phase 3. After that, it’s all about coordination between damage on Yogg and damage on Immortal Guardians. You might read some guides and think that Phase 3 is a cakewalk, it is not. Immortal Guardians hit like a truck if they are at full HP, so having an eye on the tanks is crucial. Check on Yogg’s health from time to time, it’s really important to switch more dps at him if the enrage timer is ticking down. It really sounds not so hard, just burning him down and not get overrun by Immortal Guardians (and if you get into Phase 3 you won’t need many attempts to finish him), just don’t underestimate this last phase. Especially as a healer, watch your aggro and watch where the Guardians spawn. If a Guardian spawns next to you and you land a heal that second he will run towards you and one-hit you. That’s why I died three times out of the two times we were in phase 3.
