Future of Shields Up!

Dear reader, I’m somewhat in a dilemma. Shields Up! is getting closer to its one year anniversary. This means, that I’ll have to think about paying for my domain name and webhost for a second year.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not a financial issue, it just seems a good point to review the idea of my blog and decide if keeping it  up and running is actually worth it.

To be honest, I’m no longer really happy with my work. My main goal has always been providing information, which should lead to successful shaman healing or raiding, paired with some addon highlights and a critical view of the game in general. At this point I feel like the informational value of this site is approaching slowly but steadily zero. Partly I blame blizzard, there’s just too much loot around, too many encounters, too many hard modes. I just can’t motivate myself to update loot lists all the time or even write up boss tips for an instance like Trial of the Crusader. For the most part though, it’s just me. I’m very happy with my guild, raiding is still a great thing, but a lot of the enthusiasm I felt when WotLK came out is slowly fading. I still love the game, just not quite enough to dedicate as much time to writing about it as I used to. For this site this means: infrequent updates, a lot of rants and few posts which could help the average resto shaman.

That was one side of the medal. On the other side, I still love writing. There’s so many posts I have in the pipeline, waiting for their finalization. So many little things I wanted to write about at some point. I just don’t find the time to post a frequently as I used to. This also doesn’t help to establish and keep a base of readers, who will return to my site from time to time.

Now I have about a week to think about keeping my domain for another year or retire from blogging. The truth is, both options aren’t really ideal. I don’t really plan to keep this site up if it doesn’t meet my own standards. But I’d love to continue writing about resto shamans. The best thing might be, just finding another platform for my posts. Something I always wanted to do, is team up with another blogger, as this would instantly solve what annoys me most about this site: the sheer lack of posts.

That’s it for today. Comments and good ideas are very welcome.

I read it. I like it. I don’t even play a Shammy main anymore and I still have you in my reader.

Agreed, I’ve only recently stumbled upon this blog and I like it.
Keep writing if you feel like it :)

I feel you Drug. I wouldn’t pay for if its not going how you want it to go. I would love to have you as a permanent writer over at my blog, but I am not sure how you feel about lowering your moral beliefs…8P

You can write as little or as much as you like, but whatever you do…don’t stop writing. That will be a real tragedy.

I like your blog and I’ll love it if you keep on writing, but again it’s all up to you. Looking for another platform to post is nice too. Something that you don’t need to pay to keep it up? Teaming up with other blogger is a nice idea, to me :) .

I really enjoy your blog and have actually posted links to your site on a regular basis on MMO-Champion as a must read for new Resto Shamans. You provide a valuable resource for a lot of people.

With that said, if your heart is not in it, the value of what you write will not be there either. I have enjoyed your Blog and will continue to read it if you continue.

    Don’t chuck it in.

If you feel the need to only stick to informational/instructional posts, then rather than just theorycraft, work more along the lines of

    What to do:
    in raids
    instances
    questing

synergies (or lack thereof) between classes

    etc…

You have a wealth of knowledge and I can assure you I am not the only new Shaman on the block.

At this point (probably never for that point) T10 doesn’t concern me… how to play better and what to throw into the mix when, will have me reading over and over
